The Machinima Expo 6 will take place on November 17th, 2013

Submissions to Machinima Expo 6 are now OPEN!

Submissions to the 2013 Machinima Expo

are now being accepted!

We are very pleased to announce that the Machinima Expo will be accepting machinima films for possible screening at our November 17th, 2013, virtual film festival. This is our 6th Machinima Expo and every year we find new and exciting films to share with our machinima community and the world at large. If you have a machinima film you'd like to submit to the Expo, you have from May 1st, 2013 to August 31st, 2013.

Here is how to submit your film:

  • First, your film must be at least 50% machinima, that is, footage from a real-time engine like Moviestorm, Second Life or Half Life 2.
  • Secondly, your can't have submitted the film to the Expo previously.
  • Thirdly, you must upload your film to Vimeo.com (or other video sites like youtube.com) and provide the link to download the film.
  • Fourth, you have to fill out our submission form and submit your film within the submission period.
The link to the submission form is here and on our front page under the tab SUBMIT.

A few things to keep in mind in submittion your film:

-We prefer that your send us your film in an HD format (720p or 1080p). Since your film may be screened not only at the Expo, but possibly at our sister festival, The New Media Film Festival, we need a high-quality copy of your film. Of course, we accept any format you care to submit, but if at all possible submit in HD.

-There are no restrictions on using copyrighted music, however you will take full responsibility for the legal consequences and we will consider your use of copyrighted music (and any other digital material that's in copyright) in determining the screening and jury status of your film.

-Lastly, everyone who submits a film to the Machinima Expo 6 will be notified that we have received your film for consideration. Plus, we will notify you after the submission period is over (in September, 2013) whether your film was accepted to either be screened at the Expo or forwarded on to our Jury panel for award consideration.

Last year, the Machinima Expo screened over 50 films from all over the world. We selected 10 films for Jury consideration and awarded 1 Grand Prize and 4 Jury prizes.

We will announce the screening team soon.

Good luck!

Submission Period Extended for Machinima Expo 6

 correctsubmission poster

We are extending the submission period for this year's Machinima Expo (2013) to 5 months. We will start accepting submissions via our website link on May 1st, 2013 and will continue to accept submissions through August 31, 2013. This gives filmmakers more time to polish their films or, if they are creating a film especially to submit to the Expo, time to complete the entire film.

We will be posting submission guidelines soon (within a few weeks) and there will be a few changes from previous years. We hope to make the submission process and requirements easier for filmmakers.

Remember, you can only submit your films from May 1st to August 31st, 2013. Look for our announcement of the start of the submission period on May 1st, 2013.

Thanks!

Machinima Expo 6 Announced!

2013 will mark the 6th year the Machinima Expo has presented outstanding films and programming to the world machinima community. Although our programming wont' be as ambitious as previous years, we are dedicating our selves to sharing the most interesting and accomplished machinima films that submitted to this year's festival. Our focus this year will be on the films and filmmakers themselves.

To that end, we plan on premiering the jury films one a day leading up to the Machinima Expo 6, which will take place on November 17th, 2013 at machinima-expo.com. And, although we haven't finalized the technology we plan to use this year, we plan on sharing interviews with filmmakers and sharing (perhaps live) "hands-on" sessions on machinima creation.

It takes a great deal of time, effort and money to produce even a virtual film festival. We hope that by reducing the scale of the festival a bit we can make it easier and more fun to produce the Machinima Expo.

Kate Fosk, Damien Valentine and I will be announcing an extended submission period very soon. And once we decide on our presentation technology, we'll be sharing that with you as well.

PS we also plan to consolidate as much previous Expo information and films here at our main website. Look for links to past years Expo festivals where we will share photos, audio and many, many films.

Stay tuned!
